I am a nervous Saints fan – I can’t watch penalties, I look down at my feet when the opposition go on the counter-attack and according to me mate who has suffered through games with me there is a very strong likelihood that I have a obsessive-compulsive disorder. If we are a goal up I ask him every two minutes how long to go?

Although I like football and love saints I cannot honestly say I enjoy football. We have to be two up and coasting before I can relax and start to survey the game. Steven Milne’s over-head kick against Rangers in 2006 was joyful and to this day I carry it around with me as a key-ring, proof that good fortune is ours to savour.

Falkingham joins Saints

New St Johnstone signing Josh Falkingham is hoping to make an impact between now and the end of the season following his release by Leeds United in January.

The 19-year-old central midfielder, who spent a decade at Elland Road, was an unused substitute in Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead. He told the official St Johnstone website: "I had been with Leeds United since I was eight years old so it was a big wrench to leave.

"I had a trial with Bury but the problem is that in the Coca-Cola Leagues it seems to be all about height and physicality and I’m not exactly built for that! It’s been tough but I am thrilled to bits that the manager has given me this chance at St Johnstone and I am determined to repay him.

Attacker Samuel extends Saints stay

COLLIN Samuel has signed a new 12-month deal to stay with St Johnstone.

Manager Derek McInnes fended off interest from other clubs hold on to his Trinidad and Tobago attacker.

Samuel, who has recovered from knee surgery, said: “I need to strengthen my knee to regain the power I had before the surgery in December.

“I know Terry Fenwick, the former England player, who now manages my old club San Juan Jabloteh. I’m sure he’ll give me access to facilities while I’m on holiday.

“It’s great to get the new deal done and dusted and I’m already looking forward to next season.

“The injury was more troublesome than expected so it’s been good to get back playing. That has been great for my confidence.

“It’s been a good season for us, although we wanted to finish on a high with a win against Hamilton. But the players have done well this season.”

Eight players head for the exit at St Johnstone

Saint Johnstone have announced that eight players are to leave the Scottish Premier League club.

Alan Main, Gary Irvine, Paul Sheerin, Euan McLean, Gavin Swankie and Josh Falkingham have been released by Saints manager Derek McInnes.

In addition, striker Cillian Sheridan and defender Mark Connolly have gone back to Celtic and Bolton respectively after their loan spells ended.

The Perth side finished eighth in their first campaign back in the SPL.

McInnes told the official St Johnstone website that the decision to release Saints favourites Main and Sheerin was particularly difficult.

He said: "I went from being their team-mates to their manager and it is obvious to me why they are held in such high regard by everyone connected with this football club.

St Johnstone have handed short-term contracts to veteran midfielder Martin Hardie and striker Peter MacDonald to prove their fitness next season.

MacDonald, 29, who has undergone two cartilage operations, and Hardie, 34, who required knee reconstruction, have been signed until January.

ST JOHNSTONE SWOOP FOR ADAMS

St Johnstone have become the first Clydesdale Bank Premier League club to make a signing since the season ended after snapping up Jamie Adams from Kilmarnock.

Manager Derek McInnes moved for the 22-year-old, who was out of contract at Rugby Park.

Adams, who can play in midfield or defence, made just one substitute appearances in six years with Killie, with his career hampered by more than one serious knee injury.

He had various loan spells at Queen of the South and Partick Thistle and is hoping to kick-start his career at McDiarmid Park.

It proved a busy day for Saints, with midfielder Murray Davidson signing a one-year contract extension.

The highly-rated 22-year-old is now tied to the club until 2013.

St Johnstone have re-signed defender Michael Duberry on a one-year deal.

The 34-year-old joined the Perth club in February and was a stand-out performer at the centre of defence in the remainder of the season.

Duberry told the club website: "I really enjoyed my time with Saints last season and it was no secret that my big dilemma was my family situation.
