Scottish Premier League newcomers St Johnstone have signed goalkeeper Graeme Smith from Rangers.

Smith decided to move to McDiarmid Park in search of first-team football after two years at Ibrox.

The 26-year-old joined Rangers on a free from Kilmarnock but failed to establish himself in the first-team.

The 23-year-old has agreed to return to McDiarmid Park, where he spent a successful loan spell in 2007, following stints with Hibs and Inverness over the past two years.

Saints manager Derek McInnes has been keen to add more attacking flair to his side ahead of their return to the Premier League and believes Morais – a former Millwall team-mate – is the ideal man.

The former Portugal Under-21 player spent ten days on trial in Perth and featured in their tour of Northern Ireland last week, playing in matches against Distillery and Glenavon. The deal to bring Morais to Saints has been agreed, but he is back in England sorting out personal issues before returning north to sign.

Former Hibernian and Inverness Caledonian Thistle midfielder Felipe Morais has signed a one-year contract with St Johnstone.

The 23-year-old, who had a loan spell with the Saints in 2007, had been in negotiations with the Perth club following a successful trial period.

However, captain Kevin Rutkiewicz is likely to miss the start of the season after picking up an injury.

Portugal-born Morais had rejected the offer of a new deal from Inverness.

DEREK McInnes has pledged his future to St Johnstone for another 12 months.

The Saints manager, who ended the McDiarmid Park club’s seven-year exile from the SPL, was at the centre of summer speculation linking him with vacant posts at Watford and his former club West Brom.

But after penning a new deal through to May 2011 – along with assistant Tony Docherty – McInnes stressed Perth has always been his priority.

St Johnstone have signed the former Rangers and Hibernian forward Jonatan Johansson after he impressed while using the club's training facilities.

The Finn was a free agent after having his contract terminated by Hibernian as he managed to make just six starts in 10 appearances at Easter Road.

"He's still a first pick for Finland," said Saints boss Derek McInnes, who played with Johansson at Rangers.

"He's come in as we're struggling for strikers because of injury."

Johansson, 34, has been without a club since the close of the transfer window at the beginning of September.

Jody Morris has signed a two-year extension to his St Johnstone contract that keeps him at the club until 2012.

The former Leeds and Chelsea midfielder, who helped the club win promotion last season, would have been out of contact in the summer.

Morris has impressed for the Saints in the SPL this season and the Perth outfit have now acted swiftly to secure his services.

St Johnstone have suffered a blow with the news Martin Hardie has been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.

Hardie sustained the injury in a behind-closed-doors game against Falkirk last week and St Johnstone's worst fears have been confirmed.

The 33-year-old has damaged his cruciate and medial ligament and is set to undergo surgery later this week.

Hardie faces several months on the sidelines, but the midfielder is confident he will make a full recovery and return to action.

"It was excruciating at the time so I knew it was a bad one," Hardie told the Daily Record. "I was thinking I might be out for eight weeks but my season is finished and I have to accept that.
