Die Rovers haben den Fife-Cup gewonnen! :)

Im Endspiel gabs ein glattes 3-0 gegen die Blue Brazil.

Raith Rovers 3-0 Cowdenbeath

6 Oct 2011: Fife Cup

Raith Rovers striker Brian Graham helped himself to a hat-trick as Rovers lifted the Fife Cup with a morale-boosting 3-0 win against Cowdenbeath in the final at Stark’s Park last night.
Both clubs fielded strong line-ups for the match, although it was Rovers who came out of the blocks with more purpose, producing some neat passing to push the Blue Brazil back early on. In fact, the home side took the lead with only 56 seconds on the clock, when their first meaningful venture into the Cowden box resulted in an inviting square pass from Reynolds being firmly side-footed into the net by Brian Graham from twelve yards out.

The big striker was clearly in the mood to carry his fine scoring performance from Livingston on Saturday into this cup final.

Two minutes later, Rovers were awarded a penalty – or so we thought. However, as Graham prepared to take the kick, the referee consulted his linesman and gave a free-kick outside the box instead, much to the bemusement of the players and fans alike.
So, a few minutes in, and the fans – all housed high in the main stand trying to keep warm against the cold and blustery conditions – had plenty to talk about already.

Rovers continued to dominate possession in the early stages with crisp passing in midfield, and Graham tried his luck with a speculative shot from 25 yards that whistled past the post. Not that Cowden were content to sit back and admire Rovers’ play – indeed, Rovers keeper David McGurn had to look lively to prevent a shot from striker Scott Linton levelling matters on the 15-minute mark.
However, it wasn’t long before Brian Graham was taking centre stage once again, and he extended Rovers’ lead in fine style. With twenty minutes on the clock, the big striker found himself in space 25 yards from goal, and he turned and rifled a magnificent shot into the top corner of the net, giving visiting keeper Youssef Bejaoui no chance.

Five minutes later, Cowden were handed the chance to reduce the 2-0 deficit when they were awarded a penalty. Rovers’ Joe Hamill lost possession on the edge of his own box, and in the ensuing scramble in the danger area, McGurn was adjudged by the referee to have tripped Milne. However, Robertson stepped forward and pulled his spot kick wide of the target.

Brian Graham was clearly determined to hog the headlines, and before half-time he had several shots at goal, the pick of the bunch following a slick passing move between Stephen Reynolds and Allan Walker which had Bejaoui at full stretch to fingertip Graham’s shot behind for a corner kick.

It was an altogether quieter start to the second half, although we didn’t have to wait too long for Rovers to extend their lead. In the 52nd minute, typically tenacious play by Iain Davidson out on the right touchline resulted in the midfielder swinging an inviting cross into the Cowden goalmouth, which the predatory Graham despatched past the keeper with the minimum of fuss from six yards to claim his hat-trick.

Davidson appeared to pick up an injury for his efforts in creating the goal, and went off shortly afterwards to be replaced by youngster Ross Callaghan.

Just after the hour mark, Brian Graham went off to warm acclaim from the Rovers faithful, to be replaced by his regular strike partner John Baird. Ten minutes later, as the match began to wind down towards its conclusion, John McGlynn made his final change, with Scott McBride coming on for Stephen Reynolds.

Baird tried to enliven proceedings during the closing stages in and around the Cowden penalty area, although it was McBride who came closest to extending Rovers’ lead in the final minute, his swerving free-kick from around 25 yards just tipped round the post by the scrambling keeper.

The referee’s whistle brought an end to what had been an entertaining Fife Cup final, and skipper Grant Murray raised the old trophy in front of the main stand to hearty applause from the fans.

With a free weekend ahead due to international matches, this will have proven to be a useful workout for several of manager John McGlynn’s first team squad.

Keeper Signs

Raith Rovers Football Club have today announced that experienced goalkeeper Ludovic Roy has signed a contract with the club.

Ludo, who is a well known face in Scottish football, joined St Mirren in 1998-99 and has also played for Ayr United, Livingston, Dundee and Queen of the South.

Fans will already have seen Ludo on the bench and during the warm up in recent games, and his signing is due to the knee injury currently affecting David McGurn’s understudy Ross Laidlaw.

The contract will see Ludo at Stark’s Park until 5th January 2012.

Loan Rover Returns
Raith Rovers Football Club are delighted to announce the return of Damian Casalinuovo to Stark's Park.

FP D Casalinouvo 2011_12Damian, who spent a short time on loan to Rovers in 2009, began his career with Velez Sarsfield, graduating through the youth ranks and featuring twice for the first team.

After a year with Platense, he joined Dundee United in 2009. Casalinuovo moved on loan to Rovers and made an immediate impact scoring on his début in the Fife derby against Dunfermline Athletic in August 2009. He also scored on his second appearance for the Rovers against Partick Thistle at Stark's Park.

He was recalled to Tannadice in mid-September, and scored his first goal for the Tayside club, netting the winner in a 3–2 victory against St Johnstone.

Damian signed for Hamilton Academical in August 2010, on a two year deal, and was released in April 2011 having made 19 appearances for Accies in the SPL. When his spell at New Douglas Park didn’t work out he returned to his homeland of Argentina where he has kept up his fitness to match level and he is ready to start a game if selected by manager John McGlynn.

Damian is delighted to be rejoining Rovers and he told raithroversfc.com:” My short loan spell at the club was a very enjoyable part of my time in Scotland and I liked the atmosphere at Starks Park and the warm welcome I received from the Raith fans” and he added:"I think they liked my style of play and I hope to do well for the team and the fans".

Damian has signed until the end of the season and will go straight into the squad for the visit of Morton in the 4th round of the William Hill Scottish Cup at Stark's Park tomorrow.
